Who are we?

How it all began…

Faisal Mirza

Faisal Mirza first came across Peter Sanders' photographs in the early 2000s, and crossed paths with him more than once over the years — though never for more than a salam. It was in 2010 that the two properly met, and Faisal put a proposal to him: a series of journeys, travelling together to photograph and to learn.

He saw the opportunity to put his organizing skills to work and build a platform, so that everyone else who wanted to learn from Peter could come on board too. The first Art of Seeing journey left for Istanbul in May 2012, and the team hasn't stopped since.

Peter Sanders

Peter Sanders

The eminent Peter Sanders began his career in the 1960s as one of London's most well known rock & roll photographers, shooting musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and more. His journey in the world of rock & roll led him to discover different faiths, and then ultimately brought him to Islam. He traveled to Madinah and Makkah and photographed the Holy Ka'aba in all of its glory, later being named as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. He has also published several books, including "The Art of Integration", "In the Shade of the Tree", and most recently, "Meetings with Mountains".
